π General ABA / Service FAQs
ABA (Applied Behavior Analysis) is an evidence-based approach that assesses behavior and teaches new skills by reinforcing positive behavior and reducing challenging behavior. Although it’s widely used for children with autism and other developmental differences, the scope of ABA practice reaches far beyond children and those with developmental differences.
ABA supports children, adolescents, and adults with behavioral challenges, developmental disabilities, autism spectrum disorder, and skill-learning needs.
Typically, the first session includes an intake assessment, goal setting, interviews with caregivers, and development of a personalized intervention plan. Individual βsessionsβ will differ based on the individual needs of the person being served, and can range from 1:1 teaching sessions to consultative sessions with caregivers or other professionals.
Progress is tracked with data collection on targeted skills and behaviors, and treatment plans are adjusted based on measurable gains.
The duration depends on individual goals, progress, and insurance approval; some families see improvements in months, others in ongoing programs.

Yes β BMC includes parent training and caregiver collaboration as part of individualized treatment.
BMC works with teachers and school staff to integrate behavior support plans into the classroom. Although goals for the ABA team should not replace IEP goals in the classroom for which the school is responsible, our consultation and involvement in a school arrangement is working on other skills that help each student learn better from his or her classroom environment. The BCBA plays a major role in this arrangement, although in some cases RBTs are used to add an additional layer of support to teach skills in that environment. ABA in the classroom does not replace the role of a 1:1 paraprofessional, as ABA therapy is active treatment, and BMC is committed to making sure ABA services are delivered to help the student and help the school provide enhanced services for each child they serve.
